Priests distribute hosts to the faithful during Pope Francis’ funeral

The priests and other celebrants distributed the host, also called Holy Communion – bread and wine, representing the body and blood of Christ – among the cardinals.

After receiving, the cardinals and priests began the distribution between the crowd of the faithful, seeking to reach as many people as possible.

During communion, the choir sang a melody of Latin communion – the words of Psalm 129: “From the depths I cry to you, Lord, Lord, hear my voice!”

Soon, the choir will sing Sicut Servus – a Latin adaptation of the text of Psalm 41: “My soul is thirsty for God, the living God; when I can enter and appear before God’s face?”
