The Federal Highway Police (PRF) decreed official mourning three days after death of three agents in a serious accident Occurred at dawn on Friday (18), in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The tragedy happened around 1 am, when a corporation car chased two motorcycles that pierced a blitz in the Olaria neighborhood. During the chase, the vehicle lost control, collided with several posts and eventually hit a passenger car at vicar general. In the vehicle were a couple and a child who, despite the violence of the impact, came out unharmed.
The three federal road police officers in the car died on the spot. A fourth agent, identified only as Iuri, was rescued, underwent medical attention and was discharged, according to the State Department of Health (SES).
Fatal victims were identified as Rodrigo Pizetta Fraga, Carlos Eduardo Mariath Macedo and Diego Abreu de Figueiredo .
The tragedy moved colleagues from uniforms, family and authorities. In an official statement, the PRF expressed immense regret and sympathized with the loved ones of the victims, highlighting the commitment, dedication and courage of the police who lost their lives in service.
The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, also commented, expressing deep regret for the death of the three agents. He also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to provide all the necessary support at this time of pain. Lewandowski also highlighted the importance of PRF’s work in the preservation of public order and the protection of society, recognizing the efforts of the police involved, who acted in the mission of ensuring safety on federal highways during the holiday.
The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the competent authorities.
