The pressure from the families of at least 240 Israelis kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 is “very relevant” at this point in the war.
This is the assessment of international relations professor at the Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa Sabrina Medeiros.
A CNN Radio she opined that the possibility of formulating a prisoner exchange or hostage release plan may be “the closest we will get to a ceasefire or cessation of hostilities.”
At the same time, the professor reinforced that the “big hope of the international community is the establishment of a ceasefire.”
For her, “a ceasefire is the only possible position to safeguard the lives of both Palestinians and Israeli hostages.”

However, Sabrina Medeiros admits that the path to a resolution at this time does not seem easy.
She believes that there are still political interests that hinder this type of negotiation at the moment.
