In the episode called “Darkside of the Power Rangers,” Oliver recalled the work of Walter Emanuel Jones and Thuy Trang, black and yellow Rangers interpreters, respectively.
He said that “no one has thought of stereotypes” and so the series has aired for two seasons “with the black character as a black ranger and the Asian character as the yellow ranger.”
Analyzing the cast’s cast choices, Oliver admitted regret with the cast choices. “It was a huge mistake,” said the writer.
In a documentary scene, actor Walter Emanuel Jones appears in a recording talking about his role. “My name is Walter Jones, I do Zack. I’m black, and I play the black ranger – I will understand,” he said.
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” was a successful series in Brazil in the 1990s. The work was aired at Fox Kids, but became known to the general public on TV Globo, being part of the program of “TV Colosso”.
