The song “Voando”, released by Roberto de Carvalho after the death of singer Rita Lee was nominated in two categories of this year’s edition of the Brazilian Music Award. The award ceremony will take place on June 4 at the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theater.

“Flying” is a version of the famous Italian music “Volare”, composed of Domenico Modugo and Franco Migliacci, reached digital platforms in June 2024 and features unpublished vocals of the singer of São Paulo. Because it was released after Rita Lee’s death, the lyrics act as a message from the singer to fans and family.

“Such a dream, so cool, should not end/ There I was running without leaving the place/ But suddenly I felt a weird wind/ that made me walk through the infinite sky,” says the song.

Rita Lee died on the night of May 8, 2023, at age 75, while recovering from lung cancer.

She and Roberto de Carvalho had been together for almost five decades. In addition to his life partner – with whom he had three children and two grandchildren – he was also his great artistic partner, with whom he wrote his most successful songs.

The widower told, a month after the death of the Brazilian rock queen, who intended to keep her ashes as a company until they both joined again.

“Rita’s ashes are here at home, at an altar. Let’s throw them in the garden, but only when I go up and meet her. I want to be cremated and that my ashes are mixed with hers. Then our children decide what to do. In the meantime, she is close to me,” Veja magazine told.
