Correios closed the year 2021 with a record profit of R$ 3.7 billion, according to an announcement by the state-owned company, made this Thursday (17). The number exceeds by 101% the result of the previous year, when the company reported a profit of R$ 1.5 billion.
“These are the best rates recorded in the last 22 years,” the Correios said in a note. In its third straight year of financial gains, the company had increased revenue during the Covid-19 pandemic, due to an advance in operations.

After the record result in the year, the state-owned company – which the government intends to privatize – said that it will be possible to resume the payment of dividends to the Union. The amount could be around R$ 251 million, but the transfer still needs to be approved at the state-owned company’s general meeting, scheduled for April.
Correios was included in the federal government’s National Privatization Program last year, but a bill that makes the sale possible is stalled in the Senate, after being approved in the Chamber of Deputies.
