Consumer prices in Portugal continued to rise in March, rising 5.3% year-on-year to 4.2% the previous month, the National Institute of Statistics (Ine) said today.
Inflation observed during this period is the highest since June 1994, according to Ine.
This is mainly due to the significant increase in energy prices (+ 19.8%), the highest since February 1991, notes Ine in a statement.
On a monthly basis, prices increased by 2.5% in March compared to 0.4% in February.
The harmonized price index, which allows comparisons with other eurozone countries, jumped 5.5% year-on-year in March from 4.4% in February, a record increase for Portugal since its inception in 1996.
