Pope Francis promoted dialogue between religions, says Rabbi Argentine to CNN

An Argentine rabbi who knew Pope Francis since he was a archbishop of Buenos Aires told CNN who remembers the pontiff as someone who generated dialogue between different religions.

Rabbi Daniel Goldman told CNN that he and other religious leaders were inspired by Francis’ teachings to create the Institute of Interreligious Dialogue of Argentina-a civil association that brings together the three main monotheistic religions of the country.

“I could say simply, without false humility, that I consider myself a disciple of Pope Francis,” he said.

Goldman shared Pope’s personal stories, including the monthly lunches they had together to talk about their lives.

“As part of our expression, it was forbidden to talk about politics and religion, so we talked about humor, about football,” he said.

Before some of these meetings, Goldman recalled that Francisco called him to ask which bus he should take for the commitment, a gesture that, according to the rabbi, highlighted the humility and simplicity of Francis.

“And in a way, it was funny because he went down the bus and walked around the neighborhood. People stopped to greet him. It was an experience and so close to him,” Goldman pointed out.

Pope Francis’ death

Francisco, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, assumed the title of Pope in March 2013. He marked the history of the Catholic Church as the first Latin American Pope and the first Jesuit to occupy the position.

The pontiff died after a stroke and irreversible heart failure, Vatican doctor Andrea Arcangeli said in a death certificate released on Monday (21) of the 88-year-old pontiff.

The body was expected to be placed in a coffin on Monday. On the morning of Wednesday (23), will begin the wake of the leader of the Catholic Church, open to the faithful.

The date of the funeral, a ceremony that will precede the burial of Francis, has not yet been released.

The certificate, published by the Vatican, states that Francisco came into a coma before his death on the morning of Monday
