Pope Francis died on Monday (21) at the age of 88. The news was given in a statement issued by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Vatican’s Camerlengo.

“Dear brothers and sisters, it is with deep sadness that I communicate the death of our holy Father Francis,” said a statement from Camerlengo. “He taught us to live the values ​​of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized.”

The Argentine pontiff underwent episodes of respiratory difficulties earlier this year. He was hospitalized for almost 40 days at Gemelli Hospital and was discharged on March 23. Then the Pope received a diagnosis of pneumonia in both lungs, a condition that can ignite and heal the organs, making breathing difficult.

Famous and celebrities, such as influencer Virginia Fonseca and actress and presenter Whoopi Goldberg, used their social networks to mourn Pope Francis’ death.
