“Pope Francis chose a beautiful day to die,” says Odilo Scherer

The Archbishop of São Paulo, Dom Odilo Scherer, mourned the death of Pope Francis, in a special celebration this Monday (21), in the state capital.

In opening the celebration, Dom Odilio remembered the Paschal Catholic Rite and talking about death and life, said that Francis died on a beautiful date to Christianity.

“If I could speak, so Pope Francis chose a fine day to die, Easter Monday. Death is redeemed. As the church in everyone does, we want to bring our prayer, our suffrage to Pope Francis.”

Earlier during a press conference, Odilo commented on the Pope’s legacy and stated that the cardinal acted “successfully to combat moral Chagas within the church,” commenting on investigations into pedophilia and abuse in the clergy.

Archbishop of São Paulo, Dom Odilio Scherer is one of the postulants to the new papacy, but he minimized the possibility.

In an interview said the church will choose the best, regardless of ideological positions or groups.

Regarding the inclusive stance that Francis had during his regime, Odilio stated that the Pope was not progressive or conservative, only “fulfilled the gospel.”
