Polygon: NFT games have an advantage over traditional games

Polygon’s VP said traditional game publishers are interested in GameFi because NFT-based games have a clear advantage.

Urvit Goel, vice president of blockchain developer Polygon, said games that use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have a natural advantage over traditional games that prevent users from selling their in-game items.

One of Goel’s main arguments is that the traditional business model that NFT-based games compete against might be weaker. In traditional games, users usually buy in-game items with real money, but they cannot sell them.

However, in most GameFi games, users can buy items in the form of NFTs and sell them. Goel described the traditional model as “money at the beginning, not at the end” and stressed that gamers should be able to get back at least part of the amount they invested in the game.

“We just want to give users the ability to own the content they buy. Even if you return the penny, it’s better than nothing, right?” Goel said.

According to him, game publishers are gearing up for a big move in GameFi. As an example, he cited the South Korean gaming giant Nexon, which owns the game MapleStory. He noted that the emergence of such large companies creates a kind of domino effect in the industry.

Goel hinted that the bosses of major firms entering the industry need to be very confident in the technology or they wouldn’t be adapting their top games for GameFi.

Earlier, analysts from the research platform DappRadar reported that the general drop in quotes and the crisis in the crypto market had a lesser effect on the GameFi industry.
