The São Paulo Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) will investigate the death of publicist Yuri Henrique Gabriel Santos de Castro, aged 23, as a homicide, who was found dead after going missing in the central region of the capital.
Initially, the case had been registered as a suspicious death in the 5th Police District (Aclimação). However, the DHPP decided to ask for the investigation to be carried out after reports on social media about other alleged disappearances of young gay men in the center of São Paulo. The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) does not confirm other incidents.
The advertiser was rescued in the Santa Ifigênia region, last Monday (22), and taken to the Vergueiro Emergency Care Unit (UPA), in the south zone, where he died. He was last seen leaving the Hotel Chilli, a well-known gay sauna in the central region.
In an interview with CNN , the victim's sister stated that the last time he was seen alive was arguing with hotel security guards. “We started looking for him, because Yuri is not one to disappear like that, and we reached a friend who was with him [na sauna]”, he stated.
Also in conversation with CNN the friend reported that the two were together in the sauna and, after a disagreement about the amounts of the charge, they had left their cell phones with the security guards as a guarantee of payment and returned to the room to sleep.
When he woke up, his friend realized that Yuri was not in the room and went to look for him. At this point, he was informed by security guards that Yuri had called the police and left the place claiming to be “persecuted”.
The security guards reported that they went after him and made him return to the sauna, but that he ran out without clothes and without a cell phone. That was when the young man went missing, until he was found dead in Santa Ifigênia.
The police say that there is still no information to say whether the young man was the victim of a homicide or not. Images from security cameras have already been collected and are being analyzed.
A CNN contacted Hotel Chilli, but there was no response.
