Police point out sabotage in private line stoppage during strike in SP

According to investigations by the Civil Police, the stoppage of trains on Line 9-Esmeralda on October 3, during the São Paulo subway and railway workers’ strike, was caused by sabotage at different points on the line.

“The criminal action delayed the reestablishment of the system by several hours and harmed millions of passengers”, reports a document from the São Paulo State Department of Communication.

The investigation was carried out by the 27th Police District and interviewed witnesses, including company employees, who reported finding several objects thrown into the overhead power grid and the railway line.

According to the note released, at a point on the line, close to the Autódromo station, in the south zone of the capital of São Paulo, signs of vandalism were also identified on a track switching machine. The equipment wiring would have been completely ripped out.

The information is contained in the report prepared by the Criminalistics Institute (IC) of the São Paulo Civil Police. The document also shows the places where the protective fence was opened to allow people to enter the railway line.

The investigation analyzed images from different security cameras installed along the road, but, in places where acts of vandalism occurred, there was no monitoring. The police believe that the criminals chose these points to avoid being identified.

The investigation will now be concluded and reported for analysis by the Public Ministry and the Judiciary.
