The murder of 33-year-old Sarah Everand while walking home to London has caused outrage across Britain bringing to the fore again the dangers faced by women and the failure of the police and society to tackle the problem.
Today, a police officer confessed to killing the unfortunate woman.
Wayne Cousins, a 48-year-old London police officer who worked on diplomatic patrols, had already confessed to abducting and raping Sarah.
The 33-year-old woman had disappeared on the night of March 3. She had left her friend’s house on her own on foot and had crossed some of the most central and well-lit streets in south London.

Her body was found a week later in a Kent area in a large bag, as broadcast by Reuters and rebroadcast by the Athenian News Agency.
On March 10, Cousins was arrested, and two days later charged with abducting and killing Sarah.
