The Civil Police intends to listen to the relatives of the three-month-old baby who suffocated in Itapevi, in Greater São Paulo, over the weekend. A CNN Chief Adair Marques Correa Junior explained that the reason is to understand what the home where the child lived was like and what care the parents had with the boy.
On Sunday (9), Justice decreed the temporary arrest for thirty days of Aline Nascimento Santos and Gabriel de Sousa Hipólito, parents of the child. The couple, aged 24 and 25, is appointed by the police as a suspect in the death of their own son. They had cell phones seized for investigation.
During a consultation at the Amador Bueno Emergency Room, the medical team was suspicious of the version given by the parents, who stated that the baby had choked on milk before dying. The examination carried out at the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) pointed to indirect suffocation of the airways, due to extracorporeal obstruction, that is, mechanical suffocation, possibly criminal. In addition, the report states that no milk was found in the child’s trachea, esophagus or stomach.
The doctor who treated the baby reported that the baby had abrasions, bruises all over the body and untreated rashes.
After the arrest, according to the police, the parents confessed to the crime. In the statement, the mother changed the version about the milk. She said she wrapped the child in a blanket and placed her face down in a stroller with a pacifier in her mouth.
According to her, the child stopped crying and, therefore, she went to sleep, waking up only around 6 am, when her husband called her, after realizing that the baby was not breathing. Aline, who has another two-year-old son, also said that the baby’s pregnancy was unwanted, that she did not love the boy and that the child “cried too much”.
Gabriel confirmed that Aline did not want and did not accept the child and that she preferred the eldest son. The father confessed that he lied in the hospital because he was already facing a criminal case.
Now, both can answer for doubly qualified homicide, for the use of asphyxiation and for the use of means that made it impossible for the victim to defend himself.
The baby’s body was buried on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Parque Itapevi. A CNN seeks contact with the defense of the accused.
