Civilian police officers from the Police Station to Combat Intolerance, with the support of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), arrested three men on suspicion of involvement with neo-Nazi groups in the cities of Porto Alegre, Canoas, Nova Santa Rita and Novo Hamburgo, in Rio Grande do Sul .
In the residence of those investigated, the police found various materials that were intended to propagate ideas of totalitarian regimes, such as books that deny the Jewish holocaust in World War II, flags with swastikas and posters with fascist symbols.
Pamphlets in favor of the independence of southern Brazil, weapons and ammunition were also seized.
The operation called “Accelare” aims to combat hate crimes and dismantle criminal organizations that are responsible for attracting people in the digital environment. One of the resources used was through virtual war games.
In a personalized setting, the group set up bases with different flags from Rio Grande do Sul and with symbols of the Brazilian Integralist Action, a far-right regime, inspired by fascism and which brought together many sympathizers in the last century. The images released by the Police show portraits, in the game, of the leader of this movement, Plínio Salgado.
According to the Delegate responsible for the case, Tatiana Bastos, the group also disseminated anti-Semitic and racist messages on the internet with a focus on young people who could participate in “barbaric crimes”.
After the arrest of those involved, the Police now want to identify who the “sympathizers” of the groups are.
