Police arrest three and release victim from captivity after “love scam”

The Civil Police of São Paulo arrested, on Monday afternoon (26), three men after locating the hideout where a bank manager, kidnapped the previous night, was being held hostage. The victim was rescued unharmed.

According to the police, the manager, whose identity was not released, was captured by the suspects in the East Zone of São Paulo, after going out on a date that turned out to be a trap .

The police officers who participated in the incident seized six cell phones and several documents, which connect the suspects to at least two other kidnapping cases. The victims of these crimes were also identified and will be called to give statements.

Regarding the arrest, the police reported that the location of the hideout — a property in the Jardim Eliane favela, in the same region where the kidnapping occurred — was possible thanks to the use of cyber intelligence. The operation was conducted by agents from the 3rd Investigation Department for Violation of Electronic Devices and Data Networks (DCCiber).

The three men were charged with extortion through kidnapping and criminal association. Investigations continue to locate other victims and identify possible members of the gang.
