Police arrest more than 20 people in operation in communities in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro

Police arrested 21 people in the first hours of a public security mobilization to combat crime in 10 communities in six neighborhoods in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Operation Ordo began in the early hours of Monday (15).

According to information provided by Governor Cláudio Castro at the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC), early this Monday afternoon, the occupation of these territories is permanent.

Castro also highlighted that the mobilization aims to seize weapons, drugs, and prevent money laundering through services offered in the locations.

At dawn, under the command of Victor dos Santos, who is Secretary of State for Public Security, and Castro, around 2,000 police officers from the Military Police, Civil Police and Segurança Presente left the 31st BPM, in Recreio, for 10 communities that form a corridor between Itanhangá, Cidade de Deus, Jacarepaguá and the pods.

Drones with facial recognition and license plate recognition cameras, two aircraft, 200 vehicles, 40 motorcycles, CICC Móvel and Armored Ambulance contribute to the police’s performance in the operation.

To avoid problems with the population, such as interference in classes, the first day of integrated action was chosen during school holidays.

Seized items

Among the items seized in the first hours of the operation were a car with three grenades inside, a 9 mm Beretta weapon, 102 packets of marijuana and cash, and five tons of barricades removed.

The police occupation takes place in the City of God, Blue Gardenia, Rio das Pedras, Morro do Banco, Fontela, Muzema, Tijuquinha, Pai João Farm, Terreirão and César Maia.

Other organs

Also during the operation, Inea technicians identified and intercepted an irregular construction waste disposal site located in Jacarepaguá. In Cidade de Deus, an irregular ice factory was closed and fined for soil pollution, as the establishment had an oil leak directly into the sewage system. The site also stole water.

The City Hall’s Public Order Department, with the support of Detro agents, also removed four vans from Terreirão. One of them was sealed, while 13 others were fined. Approximately 347 vehicles were stopped by the agents, and 3 cars and 15 motorcycles were removed.

An illegal marble factory was discovered in the community of Terreirão, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes. The site committed an environmental crime by dumping marble waste directly into the storm drains and was also found to be stealing water and electricity.

Detran-RJ stopped 110 vehicles on the roads that provide access to these communities. Of these, 40 were ticketed, including a motorcycle whose driver was arrested in flagrante delicto and whose license plate was different from the one registered in the document.
