Police arrest man who harassed mascot during Brazilian Championship game

A 28-year-old woman was sexually harassed while working as a mascot during a football match in Maringá (PR), 425 kilometers from Curitiba (PR). The incident occurred last Sunday (4) during the match between Maringá and Novo Hamburgo, for the D series of the Brazilian Championship.

At the time, the victim was working as a mascot for a company that sponsored Maringá Futebol Clube when she was approached by the man who asked to take a photo with her. When she approached to record the moment, the suspect touched her private parts.

According to the Military Police, after the incident, the harasser walked away and fled, blending in with the crowd. The victim called the police, who found the suspect, but he was already wearing a different shirt.

According to the Civil Police, the 35-year-old man was arrested for sexual harassment and then taken to a police station in Maringá. His identity was not released.

Maringá Futebol Clube issued a statement condemning the incident in relation to the fan’s actions. “We have received information that a service provider was sexually harassed by a fan while she was working at the stadium. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to combating any form of violence inside and outside the stadiums,” the club said.

According to the club, in Paraná, there is already an ongoing action, still in its initial phase, in partnership with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Paraná Federation and other clubs in the state to seek the implementation of the “No means No” protocol, against violence, harassment and harassment in the workplace, especially against women. The objective of the measure would be to offer full support to victims and ensure the rapid identification of offenders.
