A 20-year-old man was arrested and two minors were apprehended by the Civil Police of Mato Grosso on suspicion of having killed three app drivers who had been missing since last Thursday (11) in Cuiabá and Várzea Grande.
The victims are Elizeu Rosa Coelho, 58 years old, Nilson Nogueira, 42, and Marcio Rogerio Carneiro, 34. They were all app drivers and were at work when they disappeared.
After reports of disappearance, the Cuiabá Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station analyzed the security cameras in the region where one of the victims was last seen and identified three suspects who were seen near the worker's car.
The suspects wore the same clothes as they appeared in the camera images and, when approached, they confessed to the crimes and indicated the places where they hid the bodies.
The bodies of Márcio Rogério Carneiro and Elizeu Rosa Coelho were located in a nearby landfill in Várzea Grande, in the metropolitan region of Cuiabá. The police station continues to search for Nilson Nogueira's body.
What were the murders like?
The investigations began after the Missing Persons Unit team received information about the first victim, Elizeu Coelho, on Thursday night (11). The man was working as an app driver and stopped making contact with his family.
Family members began looking for the victim and Elizeu's son-in-law found the car he used near a square.
The other missing reports arrived between Saturday night and Monday morning.
Nilson Nogueira left home early Saturday night. On Sunday, his father went to the police station because he couldn't speak to his son.
On Monday morning, the police received a report of the third missing person, Márcio Carneiro. According to his wife, the man left the house around 9pm on Sunday and had made no further contact. The vehicle was found without license plates the following morning.
A fourth victim was identified. She was kidnapped last week, but managed to escape.
Motivation
According to police chief Nilson Farias, the prisoners displayed “coldness and cruelty” and demonstrated that they did not intend to stop their criminal actions. He stated that he considers them “serial killers”.
“They made it clear, during the interrogations, that they would not stop and that the objective, in addition to keeping good, was to kill the victim, regardless of whether she reacted or not,” said the delegate.
Farias added that the criminals' “desire to kill” began after a robbery committed by one of the suspects last year together with a brother, who ended up dead in the incident.
“Since then, this previously committed action generated the feeling that 'crime lost' and he took a liking to the practice of robbery, even taking pleasure in carrying out these deaths”, concluded police chief Nilson André.
The suspects were taken to the police station, interrogated and charged in the act for crimes and infractions similar to, respectively, theft increased by the concourse of persons, restricting the freedom of the victims, serious threats involving the use of a bladed weapon and resulting in death as a result of the violence and concealment of the victims’ bodies.
The adult will also be responsible for corruption of minors.
