The singer Pocah 29, released, on Tuesday night (3), his first studio album, entitled “Caxias’s offspring” . Having started in the music industry 14 years ago, with the artistic name of MC Pocahontas the artist had never bet on a record before.
“I always wanted to release an album, but when I started my career as an MC, times were different. I didn’t have the financial resources and the market itself doesn’t work that way, especially in the funk world,” the singer told CNN.
Pocah began producing the album in 2021, the year she participated in the reality show Big Brother Brasil. “There were unexpected events along the way and today I understand that these unexpected events were very important for me to reach this moment of personal and artistic maturity capable of releasing this album,” commented the artist.
She explained that this is not just an album, but a biographical and conceptual project that rescues her roots in Duque de Caxias, where she grew up and found inspiration.
The album is divided into three distinct acts, each representing a phase of Pocah’s life and career. This narrative structure seeks to be present in both the project’s sound and compositions, with each act being introduced by an interlude that marks the beginning of a new chapter.
The first act is called “MC Pocahontas” and is a visit to the beginning of the singer’s career. The second act, “Pocah”, symbolizes the artist’s transition to a more experimental phase, where she explored new musical genres and adopted a pop stance without abandoning her funk roots.
The third act, “Viviane” (the singer’s real name), is the most emotional, according to the singer herself. “I had never done anything like it, in terms of composition, sound… it was very intense and left its mark on this album,” she said.
The last act features more intimate songs related to his life, such as “Deliverance” a track that talks about an abusive relationship and another that is a tribute to Vitória, his eight-year-old daughter.
About “Livramento”, she said that it was very difficult to put the composition on paper.
“I wanted to bring experiences that I have lived and gone through to create a song that was not just about me. Music helps people connect. It helps people heal. When you hear ‘Livramento’, I hope that anyone who has gone through a similar situation can understand that they are not alone. And if they are still in an abusive relationship, that there is a way out. There is an escape. That we should not be afraid to fight for our lives and happiness,” she emphasized.
As for the track for her daughter, which bears her own name, Pocah says that it was her little girl’s wish to participate in the album. “She was seeing the other artists coming along to participate and said ‘mommy, I want to be on the album too’. It was really beautiful. ‘Vitória’ is my favorite song on the album. It’s a beautiful song and ends the work perfectly, with a golden key.”
Vitória herself sings with Pocah on the album.
“Cria de Caxias” features several collaborations with renowned artists. “I wanted to collaborate with artists that I like, that I admire, that I am a fan of. I was very happy with the final result. Tati, Rebecca, Slip, L7, Kevin, Durrony, Triz and GW, they brought the essence of ‘Cria Do Caxias’”.
Rock in Rio
Pocah highlighted that the album is just a step towards the beginning of her new era, which will officially begin at the Rock in Rio 2024 festival. The singer’s performance will take place on the so-called Dia Delas, on September 20th.
“My show will reflect this album. We’re also going to play with the theme of personas, so there will be MC, Pocah, Viviane,” he concluded.
