For the drug Captagon that take its members Hamas spoke on Monday morning (23/10) the Professor of Pharmacology at the Democritus University Vangelis Manolopoulos. As he pointed out it is a powerful stimulant that suppresses moral inhibitions of users.
“It gives great energy and great mobility by influencing the personality of the person who receives it” noted Vangelis Manolopoulos on ERT and on the “Connections” show.
Commenting on the heinous acts committed by the Hamas extremists to the journalists Kostas Papachliminzo and Christina Vidou, Mr. Manolopoulos emphasized that “man is capable of any atrocity on his own, but surely these substances can reduce the sense of danger and fear». And as he pointed out “using it facilitates the gruesome work they do.”
“It helps them to behave with animal instincts and take the terrible actions that we have all seen”
As he explained the poor man’s drug, as it is known, gives a feeling of euphoria, dulls the empathy of its recipients contributing to them acting with “animal instincts” and taking the terrible actions we’ve all seen.
“Especially in the Middle East it is the drug with heavy use” he said, stressing that many people are addicted to this illegal substance and not only in Palestine, where life is particularly difficult.
And as he said the use of Captagon, which is mass produced in Syria to fund the war there, facilitates this horrible work they are doing. “It gives them so much energy. They do not need to sleep, they are not hungry” added Mr. Manolopoulos, explaining that this super energy it gives can last 24 hours.
And as he pointed out, in addition to the psychotic episodes it causes in users of the illegal medicinal substance, it wears down the human body by causing a temporary “inesthesia” in the person both for his own needs and for the feelings of others
In closing, Mr. Manolopoulos reminded that wars there is such a dimension, the use of narcotics that we do not account for, but it plays a role in the atrocities carried out in armed conflicts as it has happened in the past.
