PF targets gang that used ports to transport drugs abroad

On Tuesday morning (13), the Federal Police launched Operation Looping, to combat a criminal organization focused on transnational drug trafficking operating in ports in southern Brazil.

According to the PF, the organization worked by co-opting port employees and creating logistics and container loading and transportation companies to facilitate drug trafficking.

The Federal Police investigation identified that part of the drug, which was brought from Bolivia, was taken on ships to countries in Africa and Europe. The other part remained in Brazil, supplying criminal factions for domestic sales.

During the investigations, 22 cocaine seizures were made, totaling approximately six tons of the drug. Sixteen people were arrested in flagrante delicto.

Today, agents are executing 12 arrest warrants and 27 search and seizure warrants in 12 cities in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná and São Paulo.

In addition to the warrants, the court ordered the seizure of 68 vehicles and six properties and the freezing of more than 30 bank accounts belonging to members of the gang.

Those investigated in the operation may be charged with drug trafficking and association for drug trafficking, with sentences of up to 30 years in prison.
