PF closes PM company that offered private security to Rio residents

The Federal Police closed, this Wednesday (17), the company of a Military Police sub-lieutenant who offered private security to residents of Jardim Botânico, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro.

Agents from the Private Security Control Office discovered irregularities in the provision of services and, therefore, issued a Notice of Termination of Unauthorized Private Security Activity.

If those charged do not comply with the PF's determination and continue offering services, they may be held criminally responsible.

To carry out private security activities, according to Law 7,102/83, prior authorization from the Federal Police is required. This applies both to the armed surveillance service and to security guards who work unarmed. All security agents must also be trained through a specific training course, with refresher courses every two years.

“Carrying out activities using clandestine security guards, without having the appropriate training, compromises the security of the location and also puts the lives and physical integrity of citizens at risk”, explained the PF in a note.

The action to combat the illegal exercise of the activity was motivated by complaints from residents, shared on social media by the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, on Tuesday night (16).

The document presented by Paes shows that the company charged R$500 to guarantee the security of houses and R$1,000 for buildings and condominiums.

According to the proposal, there will be 24-hour surveillance, initially with four men, one on each street, day and night. The company also asked that payment be made on the 25th of each month and that the receipt be sent via instant messaging application.

The Military Police opened a procedure to investigate the complaint.
