PF carries out operation against businessmen for international arms trafficking by trucks

A group of businessmen from Paraná is the target of an operation by the Federal Police and the Federal Revenue for international trafficking of weapons and drugs from Paraguay to Brazil this Monday (17).

Operation “Contraface” is to dismantle a criminal organization that operates in Cascavel (PR) and Toledo (PR).

9 preventive arrest warrants, 13 search warrants and 22 seizure warrants for goods and valuables were served in the cities of Cascavel, Toledo, Medianeira (PR), Erechim (RS) and Florianópolis (SC).

The PF investigation points out that the criminal group, led by businessmen from Cascavel and Toledo, imported marijuana and pistols from Paraguay, temporarily stored them in warehouses spread across the western region of Paraná and purchased trucks to transport them.

After that, the businessmen set up fictitious companies to appear as owners of the trucks, created hidden compartments in the cars, simulated the sale of the vehicles to the drivers hired to drive them and thus transported the weapons and drugs to various states in Brazil.

The scheme also constituted bank accounts held by individuals and legal entities interposed to launder the money obtained from their criminal practices, according to the PF.

During the investigations, which began in May 2023, 26 tons of marijuana and 8 pistols were seized.

It was also identified that, from 2021 to date, the group had generated at least R$14 million from criminal sources.

In October last year, in Rio de Janeiro, 4 state Civil Police agents and a lawyer were arrested during the outbreak of “Operation Drake”, suspected of initially escorting a refrigerated truck loaded with 16 tons of marijuana and selling the drug stored there. and release the driver who was driving.

According to the PF, this truck belonged to the criminal group targeted in the operation launched today.
