Two civil police officers and two international drug traffickers were arrested by the Federal Police for corruption and money laundering in São Paulo, on Tuesday morning (3).
The PF served four preventive arrest warrants and another 10 search and seizure warrants during the ‘Face Off’ operation, in the capital of São Paulo and in the city of Arujá, in the interior of SP.
The investigation indicates that the two drug traffickers paid bribes to agents of the São Paulo Civil Police in the amount of R$800,000 in November 2020. Other payments were made monthly until at least the first half of 2021.
According to the Federal Police, the bribe resulted in the shelving of an investigation that was looking into the criminal group’s involvement in international drug trafficking. The investigation was ongoing at the State Department for the Prevention and Repression of Drug Trafficking (Denarc).
According to investigators, the suspects are linked to a criminal organization that sends several shipments of cocaine abroad, mainly to Europe.
Agents also investigate money laundering practices by drug traffickers, police officers and other people linked to them (known as “front men”).
The PF states that the police investigation collected evidence that proves the concealment of assets and values of illegal origin, and the crimes of active and passive corruption, drug trafficking and crimes against the popular economy.
The court also ordered the seizure and freezing of funds in the bank accounts of those under investigation, totaling up to R$15 million. Vehicles worth approximately R$2.1 million and properties with an estimated market price of R$8 million were also authorized to be seized.
The operation was carried out by the Integrated Force to Combat Organized Crime in São Paulo (Ficco-SP), composed of the Federal Police, Federal Highway Police, Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of SP, Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (SAP) and the National Secretariat for Penal Policies (Senappen).
The action also had the support of the Special Task Force to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the State Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Internal Affairs Unit of the Civil Police of SP.
