Paul Mescal talks about “Gladiator 2”: “Different from anything I’ve ever done”

Paul Mescal will be the protagonist of “Gladiator 2” sequel to the feature film released in 2000 and starring Russell Crowe . The Irishman will give life to Lucius, nephew of Commodus, a character played by Joaquin Phoenix .

In the “Actors on Actors” section of “Variety” magazine, the actor spoke with Natalie Portman about the film and stated that it is different from anything he has ever done.

“It’s a big step from everything I’ve done before. It is very fun. I’m exercising completely different skills,” she said.

Mescal gained fame after starring in the dramas “Normal people” and “Aftersun”, which earned him an Oscar nomination.

In an interview with “Esquire” magazine in August, the actor said that the film Ridley Scott He’s the biggest he’s ever starred in.

I can’t express how stressed I am talking about this particular film because it’s definitely the biggest one I’ve ever made. I’m very excited, but it’s hard to escape the film’s legacy for a bit. I think it’s very well written and it’s an homage to the first one, but it’s something I think I can step into and comfortably make my own,” he said.

On “Actors on Actors”, the actor said that the recordings, which began in May, should come to an end soon. “Gladiator 2” is scheduled to debut in theaters in 2024.

The plot will have a time jump compared to the first film. Lucius, son of Commodous and Lucilla, who was inspired by the Gladiator, is now Emperor.

In addition to Mescal, names like Denzel Washington Pedro Pascal and Barry Keoghan make up the cast.
