The Paraty Literary Festival, Flip, starts on Wednesday (22nd) and runs until November 26th.
The program includes lectures, conversation circles, book launches and artistic presentations.
A CNN Radio one of the curators of this year’s edition, journalist and writer Fernanda Bastos, stated that “the city is ready to welcome everyone.”
“There is a unique atmosphere, the income is set up, as well as the square space, where free artistic performances take place, has this democratic character”, he added.
This year, the edition will pay tribute to the Brazilian artist and journalist Patrícia Galvão, known as Pagu.
The curator explained that the Flip organization mapped out “figures that, through dissent, aesthetic and political choices” could be included at the fair.
“Pagu’s name appeared, as she was a determining figure in several areas, prominent in literature,” he said.
Fernanda highlighted that “it was important to look at this work and, based on it, think about what we could do to make it more widely read.”
“Pagu was someone at the forefront, this discomfort with her production, which involves her being a woman and having led the proletarian struggle, that interested us”, he explained.

In the curator’s opinion, Flip serves as a showcase for writers who are not recognized.
Pagu is only the fifth woman to be honored since the Fair began in 2003.
Before her, Clarice Lispector, Ana Cristina Cesar, Hilda Hirst and Maria Firmina dos Reis were honored.
