The first job fair exclusively for the trans public in Paraisópolis, São Paulo, takes place this Tuesday (28), from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, at the Social Pavilion of the G10 Favelas .
The initiative is part of the startup Emprega Comunidades in conjunction with the G10 Favelas, with the aim of inserting more transsexuals into the job market.
The fair will hold conversation circles about the job market and its challenges, focusing on transgender, transvestite and non-binary communities, that is, those who do not identify with any sex.
“The commitment goes far beyond opening vacancies focused on diversity. There is a lack of change in culture and behavior within organizations”, said Rejane Santos, founder of Emprega Comunidades.
According to the startup, in addition to the lack of opportunities, a large part of the LGBTQIA+ population has lost income due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “More than 40% are in a situation of food insecurity, and this number rises to almost 57% when we talk about transgender people”, points out the company.
According to data from the Municipal Secretariat for Human Rights and Citizenship of the City of São Paulo, eight out of ten trans people cannot find formal jobs. In addition, only 13% of transvestites and 24% of transgender women living in the city reported having formal work.
“We want to take professionals from the periphery to the job market. Regardless of color, gender or sexual orientation”, declared the president of the G10 Favelas, Gilson Rodrigues.
