The renowned Indian artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a sand sculpture of Pope Francis to honor the leader of the Catholic Church after his death on Monday (21).
The sculpture, made on a beach in the city of Puri, is 2.4 meters and was made with eight tons of sand. Pattnaik also lamented Francisco’s death, saying that this is his way of providing condolences:
“Today is a huge loss for the whole world. Every corner (in the world) is paying tribute in a different way. We, as artists, created this sculpture of sand from the Pope,” he said.

Francisco, the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, died at the age of 88, a victim of a stroke and irreversible heart failure.
Despite his recent health problems, his death was a shock as one day he was seen in St. Peter’s Square walking at the open papate to greet the crowd at the party on Easter Sunday.
