Francisco’s body will be buried in a coffin at 20h, local time (14h, Brasília time), this Monday, said the Holy See in a statement released today.
Matteo Bruni, director of the press room, said he was “hopeful” that the Vatican discloses the cause of death on Monday night after the official death certification.
The pontiff’s suffrage mass will take place in the São João de Latron Basilica in Rome, at 14h of Brasilia, 7 pm local time, and will be held by Cardinal Baldo Reina. During the pontiff’s death rite, more details should be informed, as if the Pope was sleeping, when he died, etc.
Pope Francis’ body will be placed in a coffin at 15h of Brasilia, 8 pm, the Holy See said in a statement.
Kevin Joseph Farrell, cardinal and also Vatican’s Camerlengo, will preside over the certification of Francis’ death and the placement of his body in the coffin.
The Pontiff’s coffin should be presented on Tuesday morning (22), but the time was not informed.
Previously the Pope’s body was first exposed in the private chapel, then in the Clementin room of the apostolic palace and only then in the basilica. With Francisco, after the private chapel in Santa Marta, the body will be exposed in the open coffin in the Basilica.
