An American judge in Vermont ordered the Trump administration that he did not deport a student at Columbia University and pro-passion activist who was arrested when he arrived for an interview with his request for American citizenship.
A video showed Mohsen Mahdawi handcuffed being driven out of a building by federal agents and placed inside a vehicle on Monday (14).
Reuters was able to confirm the video for the location, the facades of the buildings, a roundabout, the street layout and the trees, which corresponded to the archive and satellite images. The date the video was filmed was checked by the original file metadata.
District Judge William Sessions ordered President Donald Trump and other high -ranking authorities not deporting Mohsen Mahdawi from the United States or taking him out of Vermont.
The US immigration and customs service did not immediately respond to a request for information.
Mahdawi, born and raised in a refugee camp in West Bank, is a student at Columbia University who plans to return to a master’s degree in September 2025, according to his lawyers’ request to keep him in Vermont.
His circumstances are similar to those of Palestinian student activist Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia student who was arrested in the New York region on March 8 and taken to a detention center in Louisiana for deportation.
American Senator Bernie Sanders and other members of the Vermont Congress delegation have classified the detention as “immoral, inhuman and illegal,” stating that the US legal resident should have due process of law and be released immediately.
