The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has called on countries that have suspended support for the United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA) to “immediately withdraw their decision.”
The US, Canada, Australia and Italy announced that they have suspended funding for the United Nations Palestinian Refugee Agency (UNRWA) following allegations that staff members were involved in the October 7 attacks in Israel.
“We call on countries that have announced the cessation of their support for UNRWA to immediately withdraw their decision,” Palestine Liberation Organization Secretary-General Hussein Al-Sheikh said in a statement on Saturday.
“In light of the ongoing conflict and aggression against the Palestinian people,” Al-Sheikh wrote, the decision to withdraw funding “implies great political and relief risks.”
“This organization must not fail to be supported and assisted by the international community,” he said.
The PLO is internationally recognized as a representative body of the Palestinian people.
