Palestine: Israeli forces kill two Palestinians in clash in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces killed two Palestinian militants in a gun battle in the occupied West Bank before dawn today. Palestinian and Israeli officials said.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the death of two men and said six others were injured in the clash at a house in the Palestinian city of Nablus. The Fatah al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade militant organization announced that the two dead were members of it.

Israeli security forces, apparently raiding outside the house to arrest a suspect, came under fire from gunmen and “responded with live fire and other means until they neutralized the terrorists inside and on the roof of the house,” police said.

A neighbor, Nasser Estitia, 60, said he heard gunshots coming from inside the house before Israeli forces fired several times into the house. “They were calling out a man’s name, calling for him to surrender,” he said.

Photos from the scene show that part of the wall on the upper floor has been destroyed.

“Another crime was committed by the occupying forces in the old city of #Nablus, where martyrs fell and many were injured,” Hussein al-Sheikh, a senior Palestinian official, wrote on Twitter. “We strongly condemn this crime and hold the occupation accountable for its consequences.”

US-brokered talks aimed at establishing a Palestinian state in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza collapsed in 2014 and there is no sign of reviving them.

Israeli forces have stepped up raids in recent months in the West Bank after men from the region carried out deadly street attacks in Israel. The Western-backed Palestinian Authority condemns these attacks.
