International Women’s Day is very close and nothing makes us happier than hearing stories of women who empower themselves and get ahead by their own means, breaking stereotypes. Such is the case of Rukhsana, a Pakistani woman who works as a driver for a public transport service.
While in Mexico, as in other places, it is common to see women driving a taxi, in countries like Pakistan it is not common to bump into them. That is why Twitter user Syedaa Khadija shared with her followers her experience in Lahore, Pakistan, when she was transported in a vehicle driven by a woman.
All of you, words cannot describe how happy I was on this trip. She was so sweet. This was the first time I had a female driver and believe me when I say this was the first time I ever took a nap on my Uber ride, knowing she was safe.
In addition to this, the young woman was in charge of sharing the photo of the moment and Rukhsana’s profile in the application. As she revealed, the woman has been working as a driver for a year and she has done very well, since she has made 2136 trips and has a rating of 4.94. In the passenger’s publication, there were those who recognized her and gave her opinion about the service.
Chica, I am lucky to travel twice with her and when I met her for the second time almost after seven or eight months, I told her about the past experience and sat in front of her. I hope to see her again one day. I’m very proud of her.
It should be noted that in Pakistan there are many restrictions towards women; Although some of their rights have been advanced, the prohibitions include not being able to testify before the law, they must not dishonor their family, that is, they cannot have “immoral” behaviors, they cannot study freely or marry whomever they choose. In fact, they are forced to marry whomever their father determines and if they refuse, they face all kinds of punishment, including death.
Women in Pakistan are not free and so seeing Rukhsana work makes us think that one day maybe all women anywhere in the world will be free not only to work but to choose how they want to live.
