The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, told the CNN This Friday (11) who wishes to vaccinate the mass population with unique doses of the immunizer produced by the Butantan Institute in 2026.
“The great bet of the Ministry of Health is in partnership with the Butantan Institute. We are developing the vaccine together. It has already been tested, including. The expectation is that it can be present next year so that we can do mass vaccinations. So, then, the most important thing is that people continue to take care of the focus of the mosquito, which is inside people’s house,” he said.
Currently, dengue vaccination follows criteria established by the World Health Organization (WHO), focused on specific groups and with the administration of two doses necessarily.
The Brazilian immunizer awaits the release of registration by Anvisa. Butantan’s forecast is to provide 1 million doses by 2025 and 100 million in 2027. However, release only occurs after Anvisa’s endorsement.
Padilha’s speech occurs, precisely, in a delicate moment of dengue in São Paulo. A survey by the Hospitals, Clinics and Laboratories Union showed that 89% of the state’s private hospitals recorded an increase in dengue hospitalizations in the previous 15 days. The hospitals were heard between March 25 and last Monday (7).
“São Paulo is responsible today, for over 70% of the deaths. So, there is a specific situation that is happening, almost an explosion of cases here. The Ministry of Health, from the beginning, has supported, sending exams, inputs, structure. Including actions, the ministry is prepared to support the municipalities and the state as needed,” he said.
The minister visited the headquarters of the Institute of Heart of the Hospital das Clínicas (Incor), in São Paulo, this Friday. He visited the facilities of the unit alongside the president of Incor, Roberto Kalil Filho and later lectured to the students of the University of São Paulo School of Medicine. To CNN, Padilha also promised to expand the institute’s facilities.
“Incor today supports maternity hospitalities, with a reduction of 40% of the mortality rate because of this. We will plan here the expansion of this InCor performance, supporting several ICUs of the country and with this, ensuring the proper time, saving lives, doing what is an obsession of the president [Luiz Inácio] Lula [da Silva]which is saving the time for medical care specialized in our country. ”
