The Minister of the Institutional Relations Secretariat, Alexandre Padilha, confirmed, this Thursday (9), that the federal government will not present a new Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the tax reform, seen as one of the priorities of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva administration. Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for this year.
The idea is to take as a basis the PEC on the subject that is already being discussed in the Chamber of Deputies. From there, make adjustments that you deem necessary and that are possible in conversations with parliamentarians.
“The government will take advantage of the production that was made by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The government will not present a new proposal”, declared Padilha, after meeting with members of the government leadership in the Chamber.
The intention is to speed up the processing of the tax reform in Congress, where it has not made significant progress for years. Currently, PEC 45/2019, the main one in the House on the subject, is ready to be analyzed in plenary.
Padilha said that the government’s objective with the reform is to reduce taxes for the poorest and simplify taxes for businessmen. He did not elaborate on how this should be done.
Former PT leader in the Chamber Reginaldo Lopes (MG) will be the coordinator of the group to deal with the reform in the Chamber, while Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB) will be the rapporteur.
