Yesterday, June 6, between 19:00 and 22:00, the “Bedrock” update took place on the Optimism network. Upgrade completed successfully. A few hours later, the service continued to operate normally.
A key feature of Bedrock is the optimization of the technology stack for modularity. In practice, this means that developers will be able to run their own L2 wrappers on top of Optimism.
The upgrade also aims to make the network as compatible with Ethereum as possible. In the final version, two clients are distinguished by 2 thousand lines of code, no more.
The developers themselves describe “Bedrock” as the beginning of the era of “Ethereum interoperability” and the gradual abandonment of “EVM equivalence”. Of the more practical benefits of the upgrade, we note a significant reduction in transaction costs.
The Bedrock package was deployed on the Goerli testnet back in winter. Already in April, work on the update was completed. But the official installation date on the main network only appeared in mid-May.
Interestingly, before the upgrade rolled out, a large amount of OP tokens were unlocked. In anticipation of this, the course “dipped”. After the successful completion of the upgrade, the asset returned to its positions. Now it is trading with an increase of 5% over the past day.
