Operation Summer: Police kill 4 more and death toll in Baixada Santista rises to 38

The number of deaths recorded during Operation Verão, in Baixada Santista, on the coast of São Paulo, rose to 38, this Wednesday (28), after four new deaths. A 24-year-old man was also hit and is hospitalized.

According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), military police were carrying out an action against drug trafficking in the Jardim do Rio Branco neighborhood, when they were surprised by armed suspects, who shot at the security agents.

Among the dead criminals were two men, aged 18 and 31, and two minors. According to police authorities, a sixth suspect was taken to the police station where he claimed he had gone there to buy drugs.

In a statement, the city of São Vicente reported that three of the men affected were taken to the Rio Branco Emergency Room, but died before arriving at the unit. The other two suspects who were shot were taken to Vicentino Hospital. One of them was taken to surgery and died in the operating room, while the other remains hospitalized.

According to the police, two revolvers and a pistol with several rounds of ammunition were seized, as well as portions of marijuana, crack and cocaine, cell phones and money.

The case was registered as drug trafficking, illegal possession or possession of a firearm, resistance and death resulting from police intervention at the São Vicente Police Station. The investigations will be conducted by the Civil Police and Military Police, with monitoring by the Public Ministry of São Paulo.
