Hayer has maintained for years that the two men were innocent and that his accomplices were other members of the Nation of Islam.
The two men were acquitted at the request of the Manhattan district attorney’s office, which said its investigation found prosecutors and law enforcement withheld evidence that, if disclosed, would likely have led to their exoneration.
