Netflix announced this Tuesday (8) the premiere date of the adaptation of “One Hundred Years of Solitude “. The series based on the work of Gabriel García Márquez it will be divided into two parts and will have the first episodes released in December 11, 2024 .
Directed by Laura Mora and Alex García López, the adaptation will have 16 episodes in total, with eight in each part.
According to Netflix, the series was filmed in Spanish in Colombia and with the support of García Márquez’s family.
In the statement released to the press, Mora spoke about the project and the importance of respecting the author’s legacy in the adaptation: “As a filmmaker and as a Colombian, it has been an honor and an enormous challenge to work on such a complex project that carries so much responsibility as ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’, always seeking to understand the difference between literary and audiovisual language, and to be able to construct images that contain the beauty, poetry and depth of a work that impacted the entire world.”
Alex García López reinforced that the project had the intention of “creating something authentic that carried the stature of an international production, because the story deserves it”.
Netflix acquired the rights to adapt the series in 2019. The first teaser was released on April 17 of this year, on the date of the Colombian writer’s death.
