Oliver Stone screens documentary about Lula in Cannes

The Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone (“Platoon” and “Nascido em 4 de Julho”) shows its new documentary for the first time this Sunday (19). “Squid” at the Cannes Film Festival. The session is scheduled for 6:45 pm (local time; 1:45 pm Brasília time).

The 77-year-old filmmaker's new production covers the period in which President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was arrested, between 2018 and 2019, until his return to power, in 2023.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP), the director said that the documentary deals with “judicial persecution, about what happened when [Lula] He was a successful president and they put him in prison for corruption, as is common in these countries.”

Six Brazilian productions will be shown at the event, and one of them is competing for the Palme d'Or for feature film.
