Ol. Solz: EU ready to impose sanctions in case of Russian invasion of Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Solz stressed the readiness of the EU to impose sanctions in case of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as the efforts made for a diplomatic exit, in a press conference he gave shortly after the conclusion of the EU Summit. -African Union.

Asked about the latest developments in Ukraine and Russia, Olaf Solz said “the situation is very critical”, with “a large concentration of Russian troops around Ukraine”. The German Chancellor stressed that in the event of a Russian military invasion of Ukraine, “we are prepared, there will be consequences and we will act together with sanctions imposed by the EU in coordination with the US and our allies in NATO.”

On the other hand, Olaf Solz stressed, “we are working very hard with all means to have a dialogue and talks to avoid this case.” He noted, however, that in the demands of Russia from the US and NATO there is a way for diplomacy and dialogue.

However, the German Chancellor stressed that it is clear that the NATO Allies will never agree on something that the principle of “open doors” of NATO will no longer be a reality for the Alliance. But at the same time, he added that everyone knows that “Ukraine’s candidacy in the coming days, months, years is not really on schedule” and therefore there is no reason for this escalation. “Let’s do our best to avoid a military conflict” that would have very serious consequences, he added.
