Ol. Anastasopoulou: Greece is the first country in Europe where passenger traffic has returned to pre-2019 levels

The Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development, Olympia Anastasopoulou participated in the work of the High Level Meeting on Safe International Travel during the pandemic, with more than 100 participants from 34 countries organized by the OECD with the Spanish government.

The Secretary General of Tourism Policy and Development in the panel on “The Long-Term Lessons from the Pandemic for Safe Travel”, pointed out the effects on the tourism and travel industry worldwide, as well as the challenges for safe travel internationally, while underlining that according to the Union AIC European Airports, Greece has now become the first country to return to pre-2019 levels in terms of passenger traffic at its airports.

As Olympia Anastasopoulou pointed out, “this is due to the timely financial support from the Greek State of both the country’s airports and the aviation sector more broadly”. At the same time, the Minister of Tourism Policy and Development noted that in various airports of our country, from May to October, bonuses are given to air traffic controllers for the fewest delays there are.

Also, Mrs. Anastasopoulou had bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Brazil, Romania, Croatia, Lithuania, as well as representatives of the Spanish government and the OECD, with whom she discussed the prospects for deepening and expanding cooperation in the field of tourism . The Minister of Tourism Policy and Development also spoke with the Deputy Secretary General of the OECD Yoshiki Takeuchi and the Head of Small and Medium Enterprises and Tourism of the OECD, Celine Kauffmann, with whom the further upgrading of the Greek tourism ecosystem through the financial tools of the Recovery Fund and Durability.
