Official of Russian occupation forces killed in Kharkiv – 7,000 Ukrainian soldiers missing

An official of the Russian occupation forces in the Kharkiv region, which is partially occupied by Moscow, was killed today in a bomb attack, according to the Russian news agency Tass.

Attacks of this kind have been multiplying recently in the occupied regions of Ukraine.

According to AFP, citing Tass, the occupation administration of Kharkiv region announced that the head of administration in the city of Veliki Burluk, Yevgeny Yunakov, was killed when a bomb planted under his car exploded. This “terrorist act” was carried out by a group of “Ukrainian saboteurs” who have infiltrated Russian lines, the same source added.

It was not specified when the attack took place.

On July 6, Russian state media reported for the first time that an occupation administration was being set up in Kharkiv Oblast, on Ukraine’s eastern border with Russia. The head of this new occupation administration, Vitaly Gadchev, assured that about 20% of this area is under Russian control, such as the cities of Izium, Volchansk and Kupyansk.

The regional capital, Kharkiv, has been staunchly resisting Russian forces for four months, despite near-daily shelling. The Ukrainian army launched counterattacks, with relative success, around this city, the second most populous after Kyiv.

Two other occupation administrations have been set up in southern Ukraine, in the Kherson region and a part of the Zaporizhia region, captured since the first days of the war. As in the separatist regions of the Donbas basin, the Kremlin is pursuing a policy of Russification, in view of possible annexation. In these areas the ruble has been introduced and residents are encouraged to obtain Russian passports.

7,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been missing since the start of the war, according to Kyiv

About 7,000 military personnel are missing in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began four and a half months ago, according to Kyiv.

Among them are soldiers, members of the national guard and border guard, as well as intelligence officers, Oleh Kotenko, Ukraine’s commissioner for missing persons, told state television today.

The majority of the missing are believed to be in Russian captivity. The army alone has listed around 2,000 soldiers as missing.

Russia has been waging war in Ukraine since February 24 and claims to have captured more than 6,000 Ukrainians since then.
