November records rainfall above the average in the south of the country

Intense rains once again hit the southern region of Brazil. According to Inmet, November has already exceeded the average for the entire month with 400 millimeters (mm) and the forecast is not for respite.

The storms, with hail and gusts of wind, have been causing several problems, such as floods, damage, and deaths in the states of the southern region, especially in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

Inmet declared this Wednesday (22) an orange alert for Rio Grande do Sul, with forecasts of winds of up to 100km/h and rain that could reach 100 millimeters in 24 hours, this Wednesday (22). Hailfalls are also expected today (22).

“The situation could become more dangerous. The rain that starts today will cause disruption, because we still haven’t managed to drain the water from the weekend. We have a wind from the south that prevents runoff, so we are unable to drain the Guaíba and the other rivers in the metropolitan region. This could cause disruption in the community”, warns the deputy general commander of the RS Military Fire Department, Colonel José Carlos Sallet.
