Norway: Natural gas production to remain elevated until 2030

Norway plans to maintain existing high production levels in natural gas until the end of the decade as Europe gradually ends Russian imports following the invasion of Ukraine, Norway’s energy minister said.

“I expect we will be able to maintain current levels until 2030,” Terje Aasland told Reuters. “We see that there are projects and also plans for development and operation [νέων έργων] which are now coming and will help maintain high volumes of natural gas in the future,” he added.

Norway’s output is expected to reach 122 billion cubic meters this year, according to official forecasts, up 8 percent from 2021 and likely to surpass the last record five years ago.

Norway is now the biggest supplier of natural gas to Europe, according to data from Refinitiv Eikon, overtaking Russia which has significantly reduced its supplies.
