His resignation was submitted by the Minister of Health Northern Macedonia Venko Filipce on the occasion of A fire in a Covid-19 unit of the hospital in the city of Tetovo, which claimed the lives of 14 people.
Filipce said he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Zoran Zaef for moral reasons.
“As a doctor and a minister, I have integrity and for reasons of moral order I submitted my resignation in writing to Prime Minister Zoran Zaef,” he said.
Venko Filipce, 44, who is a neurosurgeon, took over as Minister of Health in December 2017, while last May he was elected vice-president of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDSM) led by Zoran Zaef.
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Health of Northern Macedonia and the commander of the Tetovo hospital, who come from Ali Ahmeti’s ruling Albanian DUI party, resigned.
A fire that broke out on Wednesday night in a prefabricated prefabricated unit for patients with coronavirus, at the hospital in the city of Tetovo, killed 14 people. Twelve of them were patients with coronavirus treated in the unit and two were visitors, relatives of patients.
The causes of the fire are not yet known.
