North Korea tests cruise missile warheads, says KCNA

North Korea carried out a cruise missile warhead test and a launch of its new anti-aircraft missile in the West Korean Sea on Friday, North Korean news agency KCNA reported.

The warhead would be designed for the “Hwasal-1 Ra-3” strategic cruise missile, according to KCNA, citing the Missile Administration of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Furthermore, the new anti-aircraft missile would be the “Pyoljji-1-2”.

“Both tests were part of the regular activities of the administration and affiliated defense science institutes for rapid development of technologies in various aspects such as tactical and technical performance and operation of new types of weapon systems,” the agency highlighted.

She also added that the actions were not related to the regional situation.

North Korea's strategic cruise missile is believed to have been designed to carry a nuclear warhead. South Korea, Japan and the United States, which frequently report large missile tests they detect in North Korea, have made no mention of a missile flight.
