A story worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster – a hacker from the United States single-handedly turned off the Internet throughout North Korea from his home computer. Moreover, the information publication Wired reported that the attacker even revealed himself, saying that he did it out of revenge. The fact is that back in 2021, North Korean hackers launched a massive attack on various specialists living in the United States in order to obtain important data, tools or developments. A user under the nickname P4x also came under attack from experts from North Korea, who received a file from the hands of a certain user that secretly transfers data to the hands of specialists.
P4x himself said that North Korean hackers could not steal anything of value from him, but the user nevertheless filed a complaint with the federal service, which is responsible for cybercrime in the United States. For a whole year since the attack, the enthusiast did not receive an answer, deciding to punish the offenders on his own – for this, P4x activated various vulnerabilities in the security system of North Korea, launching multiple DoS attacks on government servers and routers that supported the Internet in the country. Soon after, information appeared about problems with the Internet in the country, and soon it stopped working altogether – the user managed to suspend the work of all sites for about six hours.
At the same time, the hacker clarified that he did not plan to harm ordinary citizens – the main goal was to take revenge on the leadership of North Korea for hacker attacks on the United States. However, it is worth noting that ordinary citizens of the country have very limited access to the Internet (not everyone has it), so the blow was really dealt more to the leadership of the state than to ordinary people. And, most interestingly, P4x does not plan to stop there – he, with the help of other hackers, plans to continue to hack various systems in North Korea.
